About Us

The Acupuncture Council of Ireland, TCMCI Ltd, is the unification of three regulatory bodies:

  • The Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Organisation ACMO
  • The Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association AFPA
  • The Association of Irish Acupuncturists AIA

In consultation with the Health Service Executive and the National Working Group the above organisations have come together to form the ACI. The ACI was formed in January 2006 and has continued the high standards of the preceding organisations. ACI has 500 members nationwide and can provide members of the public with contact details of a fully qualified practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture.

The ACI is responsible for the regulation and maintenance of a Register of Acupuncturists. Only fully qualified and insured practitioners can become members of ACI. All members are bound by a Code of Ethics and Code of Practice, which is strictly enforced by the Executive Committee of the ACI, thus offering a guarantee of confidence to any patient seeking treatment.

It is a condition of membership that each practicing member carries Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance Cover.

Members of the ACI are approved by Aviva, VHI, Quinn Healthcare and HSA for Out-Patient insurance purposes
